Fat chicks on bikes
took the MSF safety course last weekend! The instructor had a 1999 Goldwing with 80k miles!
10 people in the class
3 were under 30 (1 of these being 16)
6 were there because they bought/tried to ride something too big for them. (anything from a Shadow 750 to a Goldwing!)
3 accidents
1 fat chick knocked over the (only) cute chick, pinning her under the motorcycle and then ran over the bike. (This was panicing in a parking exercise, she should not have even been in first)
1 chick turned too slow and fell over.
1 older guy thought he put his kick stand down and the bike fell on him when he tried to dismount.
The bikes were:
4 Suzuki GS500F's (I rode one of these)
1 Eliminator 125
I Yamaha 125
1 Suzuki GZ 250
3 Honda Rebels
Some things I learned:
Sportbikes are built to corner and manuver in tight places. Thanks to the GS500, I was the only one to do the figure 8 in the box
Its a good course, if you have never ridden its PERFECT, the pace, everything.
Cruisers are not flattering to overweight people
Sportbikes however, are quite slimming.
It was strange to come from family telling me I will be dead on a motorcycle to seeing actual families riding together. There were several wives learning to ride with their husbands, 1 girl learning to ride, so she can ride with her parents, and one husband/wife team.
My only real complaint is in group exercises, everyone ends up stuck behind the slowest chick, errr person.

XL-teens
Salon has a fascinating piece on Torrid, a growing chain of alterna-clothing stores for "XL-teens" (overweight kids, apparently mostly or all girls). This is the sister-store to Hot Topic, a wildly successful chain of mall-goth stores that aggregates head-shop wares, hipster tees, Nightmare Before Christmas tchotchkes, etc, and brings them from the Haight to the mall.

Panorama Ephemera
PANORAMA EPHEMERA (2004, 89:35 min., color and black and white) is a collage of sequences drawn from a wide variety of ephemeral (industrial, advertising, educational and amateur) films, touring the conflicted landscapes of twentieth-century America. The films' often-skewed visions construct an American history filled with horror and hope, unreeling in familiar and unexpected ways.

My PSP Review
By now I am sure most of you have headed to best buy or somewhere to se this thing.
I wont bore you with tech details you can look up elsewhere.
The main problem I have heard people talk about, has been the price. I do hate the fact that you get a "value pack" instead of buying just the system. Headphones you should get, and a AC adapter. But does a soft case really cover the price? The little remote control (wired) should be sold extra as well. The lanyard loop is WHITE, and doesnt really scream masculinity.
The system however, is a very sexy, shiny black with a HUGE screen that displays in 16X9. The button layout is different from any other handheld I have seen and takes some getting used to. If you try to hold like a gameboy (advance) you will hurt your hands. The analog "stick" seems oddly placed but functions fine. I have also had no problems in pressing the square key.
Graphic-wise, this is the BEST I have ever seen in a handheld, games and movies are fantastic! The sound is full and rich. I am getting around 5-6 hours out of the batteries just on games. I havent watched all of the free Spiderman movie (Because it sucks)I just popped it in to look at the screen.
I have to tell you I really wasnt interested in any of the launch titles, I did buy untold legends:brotherhood though. I am more interested in video to go on this thing and that is what I will mainly be doing with it. Its smaller, lighter, and cheaper than a true widescreen portable dvd player. Plus I cna rip my dvds to it or bitorrent aquired movies.
All in all I like it, it seems expensive, but not for all the things its capable of..

Zelda Classic
http://www.zeldaclassic.com/
Zelda Classic is a tribute to (what we think is) the greatest video game of all time: Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda. It has been developed into an exact replica of the NES version that we all know and love. Beyond that, Zelda Classic allows the development of new quests that can use either the traditional graphics or enhanced graphics, as well as new enemies, items, and challenges.

Roman Emperors - DIR--De Imperatoribus Romanis Roman History Roman Roman Empire Imperator Basileus De Imperatoribus Romanis Encyclopedia Byzantine
Roman Emperors , there sure were a lot of them. This online encyclopedia is the most comprehensive resource on the autocratic rulers of Rome I have come across. It ranges from Augustus to Constantine Dragases, the last emperor in Constantinople. It doesn't include them all, but has most, including my two favorites, Basil II, the Bulgarslayer and Antonius Pius. You can also find the one least deserving of fame, the one with the silliest name and, of course, the completely batshit ones. Also on the site, maps, battles, coins and everybody's favorite subject, genealogy.
